About Whitmore Counseling

Ian Whitmore

I believe you already know what you need to succeed. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” anything, you’re not broken. Working from both Acceptance and Commitment, and Narrative Therapy perspectives I work with you to figure out what is working in your life, what isn’t, and what you’re either willing or able to do it about it. Together we’ll help you figure “it” out, whatever “it” may be.

Open and honest communication is so important to our work together. If at any point in time our process isn’t working for you please let me know and we’ll either change things up to work better, or work together to refer you to a provider who may be a better fit.

Experience and Education:
BA in Psychology from University of Southern Maine
MSW from University of New England

For the past 10 years I have worked with older adolescents and adults in a variety of high risk situations; homelessness, incarceration, and in psychiatric hospitalization. Anger, trauma, male survivors of abuse, life transitions, anxiety, and depression being areas of particular interest.

Frank

The office manager. Frank is a big fan of snacks, a fuzzy blanket, a warm lap, and rambles through the woods. Never one to wander too far from his people, odds are high that Frank will likely try and make an appearance in one of our sessions.
